The Second Officer (Watch) is the Navigation Officer responsible for the navigational operations, reports, equipment, supplies, maintenance and resources of the ship.

• Maintaining safety equipment onboard (such as lifeboats, life rafts, and firefighting appliances) and performing general upkeep of the ship.
